On January 25, 2019 in the Regional Art Museum the exposition "Unrecognized Genius" to the 155th anniversary of the birth of Theodosius Safonovych Kozachynsky (1864-1922) have opened.

During the life of Theodosius Safonovych did not receive recognition and fame, which undoubtedly deserves. Due to difficult family circumstances, the future artist did not get secondary education, and failed to get an education at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, where he studied as listener. His teacher was the famous master of painting Ilya Yuhymovych Repin. Since 1887, Theodosius Kozachynsky had to stop studying at the Academy.

In historical sources there is no information where exactly in the village of Glodosy (now Novoukrainka district Kirovograd region) he lived, on which streets the future artist walked. It was in this steppe region that the future teacher of the Yelysavetgrad art beau monde of the early 20th century, Theodosius Safonovych Kozachynsky, was born in 1864. The artist made a significant contribution to the artistic life of Yelysavetgrad in the early XX century. In 1906, he headed Evening drawing classes at the Yelisavetgrad zemsky real school, which opened the way to the world of art for masters of world-class painting, among them: Alexander Osmerkin, Peter Pokarzhevsky, Amshey Nyurenberg, Alexander Foynytsky.

The exhibition presents paintings from the funds of the Regional Art Museum: "Portrait of a Hunchbacked Girl "(1912), this work the author tries to convey the state of mind of a crippled girl; "Gymnasium Girl" (1910), today it is perhaps the most famous work of Kozachynsky for the inhabitants of Kropyvnytsky. The artist met Tamara Golovchenko, who became the famous “gymnasium girl” in the park where he loved to work, the artist was struck by the extraordinary beauty of this woman, her special eyes, he was fascinated by her and did not stop until he created a portrait of Tamara Golovchenko; “Grandmother with Granddaughter” (1917), the work was painted in a terrible, crucial, harsh year of 1917, connoisseurs of art immediately recognize in the painting the landscapes of modern Kropyvnytsky; the artist's work "Garden Corner" (1919) organically complements the exhibition.
