Today, April 18, International Day For Monuments and Sites is traditionally celebrated, which was deduced in 1982 by International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), created by UNESCO. In Ukraine this day is also celebrated as Day of historical and cultural monuments, established according Presidential Decree Ukraine from August 23, 1999 № 1062/99.
Ukraine is a country with long history and culture. Each region has its own sights of Pearls of Ukrainian lands. This is a real treasure, our pride and heritage. Up to this day, there are preserved ancient fortresses, palaces and manor houses, ancient ancient monasteries and temples (some of them still hold services) and many other splendid architectural works of art that ever glorified their artists. From all corners of the globe, tourists come here to see our priceless treasures.
Designated into the list of World Heritage Site, Kyiv's Saint Sophia's Cathedral with related monastic buildings, Kyiv Pechersk Lavra (1990), ensemble of Old Town (Lviv) (1998), Struve Geodetic Arc (2005), Residence of Bukovinian Metropolitans (2011) are famouls all over the world.
The value of such places is difficult to overestimate, because they not only preserve the spirit of a certain age, the memory of centuries, but also create a tandem of past and present, allow the person to feel a part of something bigger, a part of history. Each era leaves us a legacy memorial which keeps the memory about a significant event that might have radically changed the life of the state, as a prominent figure that somehow influenced the formation and development of the country. Magnificent palace, obelisk or the honours board on the small cottege - all of this give you a feeling that a person don't come into this world for no reason, and don't go out there leaving nothing on it's own. And you get inspired. Inspired for the life.
We should respect what we have. Even in new contidions, to create something not just beautiful, but snitzy, really majestic - isn't the easiest task. Monuments and historic sites - that's what keeps the spirit of each particular locality. For example, during the establishment of the Bolsheviks in n Elisavethrad of that time were destriyed a lot of buildings. More damage was inflicted in 1941 - 1945. After the end of the World War 2, a lot of Monuments haven't been renewed. Of course, the urban matrix could be significantly changed, and we will never know how could it be, if this tragic events never happened. A little historical centre and single masterpieces of the past among new buildings and "Khrushchyovkas" are preserved. But even now there are some places in Kirovohrad that concern the heart, inspire poets, artists and musicians.
Celebration of the Day of Monuments and Sites is aimed for rising of public awareness of the diversity of cultural heritage, its vulnerability and the necessity of effective efforts to preserve it for future generations. The task of this holiday is to remind the public about the need of preserving the cultural heritage created by efforts of many people in the history of mankind.
In the virtual exhibition "Temple of Memory" presents works from the collection of the stock of Kirovohrad regional art museum, which can trace the history of the city, to know how it was built and was spreading like changing its appearance over time. Also presented works that represent the historical and architectural monuments of Ukraine, known also abroad.
