On September 20, 2021, as part of the celebration of the 51st anniversary of the All-Ukrainian Festival of Theatrical Art "September Gems" in the Small Gallery of the Art Museum - Kirovograd Academic Regional Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater named after M.L. Kropyvnytskyi an exhibition of works of art "Land of Coryphaeus" has been opened.

The presented exhibition is a picturesque ode to our Steppe Hellas and its theatrical brand, a tribute to the famous luminaries of the theater and honoring their creative laboratory, world-class art pearl and a real tourist Mecca - the museum-reserve "Farm of Hope". Popularization of the works of unique masters of the brush and theatrical component of the history of "cities with military correction" are aimed at destroying the stereotype of provincialism and forming a sense of national dignity and awareness of the contribution of our steppe region to world cultural and civilizational development.

As you may know, it was our city that was destined to become the "Cradle of Ukrainian Professional Theater", the official start of which is considered to be the premiere in October 1882 of "Natalka Poltavka". This was largely due to the special status of the military and imperial city, which undoubtedly influenced its cultural development.

But the main factor in the birth of the theater was the activity of the famous Tobilevych family in our region. These are three brothers - Ivan Karpovych Tobilevych (Ivan Karpenko-Kary, 1845-1907), Mykola Karpovych Tobilevych (Mykola Sadovsky, 1856-1933), Panas Karpovych Tobilevych (Panas Saksagansky, 1859-1940), and their sister - Maria Karpivna Tobilevych ( Sadovska-Barilotti, 1855-1891). They were joined by the then prima of the theater Maria Zankovetska (1854-1934) and Ivan Tobilevych's second wife Sofiya Tobilevych (1860-1953).

Thanks to them in the 1860s, the history of professional theatrical work in Yelisavetgrad began with an amateur group led by Ivan Tobilevych and Mark Kropyvnytsky, which first began its activities in the county town of Bobrynets. In 1867, the Winter Theater was opened, built with money and under the direction of Colonel Trambytsky. Bands and artists not only from the Russian Empire, but also from Poland, Italy and Great Britain performed on the stage of this theater.

In 1885, the theater troupe was divided into two groups, each of which, under the direction of Mark Kropyvnytsky, the other - Mykhailo Starytsky, followed a separate creative path, but both - with constant success.

From 1891 to 1893, M. Kropyvnytsky's troupe included the prominent Ukrainian theatrical figure Dmytro Haidamaka-Vertepov (1864-1936), the grandfather of the outstanding artist - compatriot Petro Ossovsky (1925-2015), who in 1896 together with his wife, actress Yulia Shostakivska ( 1871 -1939) created his theatrical troupe, preserving the traditions of the theater of luminaries.

Great difficulties befell our theater after the revolutionary events of the early twentieth century, but nevertheless, in the 1920s there was a Ukrainian stationary theater with a permanent troupe (theater director and troupe leader Dmytro Haydamaka-Vertepov) in Yelyvavetgrad.

In 1933, the theater was closed due to major repairs, and the team was sent to Chernihiv, and only for the formation of the Kirovograd region, a new theater was created in Alexandria, but with the status of a regional institution. Since 1940 it has been named after Marko Kropyvnytsky. During the Second World War in the history of the theater there were difficult periods of work in the evacuation (Turkmenistan) and during the occupation (Kirovograd) of 1941-1944. After the war and to this day, the people of Kropyvnytskyi confidently and successfully continue their creative path along the path of luminaries.

Unfortunately, they have heard negative responses to our theater from ukrainophobes, who try to desecrate everything that is a reason for us, patriots of Ukraine, to be proud, to compromise our heroes, to ridicule our history. "What are you doing with these peasants and provincials?" - Visitors from other regions of our state asked me - "Is it possible to compare St. Petersburg, Moscow, European theaters and yours?". For such "specialists" in history, and in particular - theater, it is worth recalling that the Tobilevych family is an ancient Ukrainian noble family of Belarusian-Lithuanian and Polish origin, the name Tobilevych is mentioned in the acts of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the mid-sixteenth century. The Tobilevych family received the coat of arms from the Polish king himself. Later, due to the accession of the Right Bank of Ukraine to the Russian Empire, political and national bias and bureaucracy, they, unfortunately, failed to prove their aristocratic origins. We should not forget about the enchanting tour of the troupe of Mark Kropyvnytsky in 1896-1897, which conquered the demanding audience of St. Petersburg and Moscow, forcing it to applaud standing.

It is also nice to realize that a significant theatrical component of the history of our city helped him in 2016 to change the odious name of Kirovograd to a sincere Ukrainian and theatrical - Kropyvnytskyi, which we honor our "Ukrainian Shakespeare". It is under this name that it has become better known and branded for representatives of other regions of Ukraine and abroad, which is very important in terms of forming an attractive tourist image of the region and the development of relevant infrastructure.

So it is not surprising that local masters of the brush often turned to theatrical themes in their work. So only in the Museum of Arts today is stored and exhibited about two hundred works dedicated to our theater, its founders - the luminaries, actors of the theater of different times and the creative laboratory of luminaries - Khutor Nadiya. After all, as we know, in the spring of 1887, returning after three years of political exile, Ivan Tobilevych settled on the farm, turning it into his literary studio. It was here that he wrote 11 of the 18 plays included in the golden fund of national classical drama, in particular - "One Hundred Thousand", "Master", "Sava Chaly", "Gandia" and others. Mykola Sadovsky, Panas Saksagansky, Maria Sadovska-Barilotti lived in the estate at different times, Maria Zankovetska, Marko Kropyvnytsky, Mykhailo Starytsky and many other representatives of the then creative elite - theatrical figures, writers, artists - visited it many times. Each guest of honor had to plant his own tree, so the oaks planted by the luminaries and prominent guests of the Farm still stand here.

In 1970, during the celebration of the 125th anniversary of the birth of I. Karpenko-Kary, with the participation of the most prominent Ukrainian writers and theater figures, the annual festival of theatrical art "September Gems" was launched, which in 1990 received the status of All-Ukrainian. The real pearl of Nadiya Farm is also the world's only Museum of the History of Ukrainian Choreographic Art, which receives guests from different regions of our country and abroad - the USA, Canada, Germany, Poland, etc.

Therefore, the visitor of the presented exhibition will have the opportunity to get aesthetic pleasure from the wonderful works of fellow artists, who are not indifferent to the beauty of our native land and its cultural traditions. Among such works by Sergei Shapovalov "Willows over the river" (2007), Felix Polonsky "Breath of Autumn" (2013), Andrei Khvorost "Golden Ear" (2021), "Meeting with the forest" (2021), "Flowers" (2021), "Theater of Coryphaeus" (2020), "Evening before the premiere" (2020), Valeria Davydova "Old Yard" (2007), "Our Mound" (2018), Anatoly Kimnatny "Farm Hope" (2020), "Summer Day ». Near the village of Chervona Polyana ”(2013), Oleksandra Demydenko“ At dawn. Vohnivka ”(2017),“ On Sinus ”(2018), Lyudmyla Demydenko“ Youth ”(2018),“ Portrait of a Ukrainian Woman ”(2020), Vasyl Koval“ Evening ”(2015),“ Spring has come ”(2019) and others.
