On July 20, 2021, an exposition of the author's sketches of the tattoo - "With Independence in Heart", dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, was opened in the Art Museum.
Tattoo - an image (drawing) on the skin of a living person and the procedure for its application. These forms of body art have long belonged to many different cultures around the world.
It is believed that the oldest evidence of human tattoos dates from 3370 to 3100 B.C. Tattoos from past civilizations have been associated with a wide range of human activities: medical treatment, belonging to a certain population or culture, camouflage in hunting, etc., in contrast to the cosmetic value they carry today.
However, even today, tattooing is changing its place in social culture from an art that is understandable to a certain subcultures, to an art for a wider audience. Today, tattoos are becoming an equivalent phenomenon of the wider culture, which includes the same fashion, graffiti, design and so on - and tattoo design can be analyzed in the context of stylistic preferences of time, place or a certain group of people.
One hundred years ago, tattooing was not as widespread as it is today - and in general, in its entire history, it has never been as popular as it is today. Tattoos are made by more and more people in the modern world, moreover, they are becoming more extraordinary, on any subject and are performed in a variety of styles. Tattoos have changed a lot in recent years - and have changed especially in the age of the Internet. If before the Internet tattoos were rather a local craft - with predominant local themes, styles and trends, now globalization is blurring these boundaries.
In the exhibition you will be able to see works on patriotic themes, made by several masters who work with different styles and techniques of painting: graphics, color tattoos, dotvork, photo-realism, GreyWash, NewSchool - so all original tattoos become unique.
The masters not only provided sketches, because conceptually the tattoo will not be perceived if you do not see it on the body. The exhibition "with the Independent in the heart" presents sketches and photos of tattoos on people. The works were provided by masters from tattoo parlors in Kropyvnytskyi and Svitlovodsk: Serhiy Handubey - Tatu-Zalezhni Studio, Dmytro Kokhan - Neon Tattoo Studio, Oksana Pechur - Oxy`s Tattoo Studio in Svitlovodsk and Valentina Volkova.
A small installation has been prepared for visitors, in which photos and sketches are arranged, decorated in patriotic colors. In addition, the composition presents work from the museum's collection of the artist-countryman, sculptor Andriy Nimenko - "Naked", which has become a symbol of an untouched, clean, tattoo-free body. Next to it lies a small stick, on Ukrainian handkerchiefs, which symbolizes the liberation from the shackles of stereotypical, biased thinking. Thus, we want to show that a person in an independent country has a free choice, only he decides which way to go. Every thought, like any manifestation of art, has the right to respect and recognition. So we urge you to expand the boundaries of your understanding of standards in the art spaces of our lives!
We invite you to celebrate Independence Day with us!
