On May 14, 2021, the Museum of Arts opened an exhibition of works on the museum's collection for Europe Day in Ukraine.
Since 2003, Europe Day has been celebrated on the third Saturday of May in Ukraine in accordance with Presidential Decree № 339/2003 of 19 April 2003. This year's celebration of Europe Day in Ukraine falls on May 15. The starting point on the way to Europe Day is Schuman's Declaration.
On May 9, 1950, in Paris, French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman called on France, Germany, and other European countries to merge their coal and steel industries (the basics of building up military equipment) and hand them over to a new supranational structure. This became the "cornerstone of the European Federation." By combining economic efforts and sharing the results achieved, European countries have avoided the accumulation of military power against each other, which has ensured peace in Europe. Three and a half decades ago, at 1985 Milan Summit, EU leaders decided to perpetuate the day of the proclamation of Schuman`s Declaration and decided to celebrate Europe Day every year.
On Europe Day, the people of Ukraine celebrate the day of common values, common history of all nations of the continent. It has become a tradition to hold various events on this day, aimed at getting acquainted with the history and culture of European countries. The Museum of Arts also joined the celebration by opening an exhibition of works of art from the museum's stock collection.
The artist Gennady Grebnev, who currently works in France and is better known as Victor Orly, is represented by the work "Port. Barque "(2011), which praises the beauty of Provence, which at one time became an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Van Gogh, Renoir, Matisse, Gauguin and others.
The core of the exhibition is the urban landscapes of another fellow artist living in Odessa, painter Sergei Dryga: "Morning in Antwerp" (1999), "Tratoria Soprano. Krakow »(2005). For many, the historic centers of Antwerp, Belgium, and Krakow, Poland, are the epitome of the spirit of old Europe. Urban architectural images are rich in color, air and space.
The works of Volodymyr Bilous are a certain contrast to the works of Serhiy Dryha, they glorify fragments of ancient architecture which is relentlessly attacked by modern civilization.
