On November 10, 2021, the exhibition of foreign household porcelain of the XIX-XX centuries, donated by the citizen of Canada Olena Berikul-Kryvoruchko: "Beauty of General Use", was supplemented with new arrivals in Kropyvnytskyi Art Museum

The exhibition "Beauty of General Use" presents foreign household porcelain of  XIX-XX centuries. The exhibits were handed over by our compatriot, who is currently a Canadian citizen - Olena Berikul-Kryvoruchko. Ms.Olena's passion for collecting has helped her collect a large number of unique porcelain exhibits that have been made in the UK, Japan, Italy, China, Germany, Canada, Greece, the United States, Portugal and Mexico.

After thirty years of collecting unique exhibits, the collector decided to donate a private collection to the museum of four regions of Ukraine, where her ancestors come from. One of such regions is Kirovohrad region, where the Buz Cossacks of Krasnolissya - Kryvoruchky lived in the 18th-19th centuries, and Ms. Olena's grandfather Viktor Berikul worked on the railway in Oleksandrivka. Our philanthropist made the first donation in the spring, as a result, we opened a permanent exhibition of foreign household porcelain of the XIX-XX centuries, which became the decoration of the museum. Later, after the enchanting opening, Ms. Olena decided to make a second donation and thus expand the collection.

The first 76 exhibits were only an introduction to the subtleties of the art of ceramics, our visitors. The new gift is a continuation, contains many extraordinary exhibits and together with the first part create a finished picture. Moreover, in the new part of the collection there is an exhibit of the XIX century, made of porcelain sponge cake, made in Germany. The second donation replenished the stock treasury with another 51 exhibits.

According to Olena Berikul-Kryvoruchko, her entire collection consists of more than three hundred products, various in terms of production technology, decoration, and country of manufacture. We already have 127 items that have been transferred to the museum's stock collection.

This gift will allow you to immerse yourself in the world of beauty, discover all the secrets of making porcelain and ceramics. Porcelain is an incredible material - elegant and charming. It is believed that porcelain was first made by Chinese craftsmen during the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907), as it was in this country that the technology of porcelain production was invented. She was kept secret and could have lost her life for disclosure.

The collection includes utensils, figurines, vases. Most products are made of porcelain and earthenware, some of ceramics and glass. Among the products that complement the exhibition are two statuettes made of porcelain - sponge cake (a type of ceramic, unglazed porcelain, made of white porcelain, not covered with a shiny layer of lead glaze). In addition, you can see new products with oriental colors, made in the city of Jingzhen - the center of porcelain production in China. Figures of three star elders: Shaw, Lou and Fu also add atmosphere. A large number of works are made in the technique of moriage (thin strips of painted clay are applied to the porcelain surface to create the effect of three-dimensionality (3D)). The collection contains many collection plates painted by hand: a decorative porcelain plate "Poor children on the street", a white perforated plate with a floral ornament, an orange fruit plate with the image of a tree by the river.

Many exhibits from the new gift complement the previous one. Greek plate, complemented by a black vase with gilding; Wedgwood plate with Japanese copies in Wedgwood style; yellow flower of Capodimonte rose of the same firm.

In addition, there are incredibly beautiful exhibits that are interesting in their purpose: a mug for a mustachioed man, a pomander, an incense burner, pink porcelain cups and a tray for toasts with floral ornaments and others.

The collection includes products made of bone china. Some dishes contain a prestigious seal, which confirms that the porcelain company-manufacturer "Peregon" is a supplier of porcelain of Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain, ie produces porcelain of exceptional quality and artistic decoration - a plate with floral decoration.

For our museum, the porcelain collection is a great value and we are grateful to Ms. Olena for the second generous gift, which evokes sincere feelings of honor and respect in the hearts of the staff of the Museum of Arts. And such a significant replenishment of the fund collection will help preserve the cultural heritage and will contribute to the development and promotion of museum and tourism activities in Steppe Greece.

In addition, Ms. Olena shared with us her story of how she started collecting porcelain. She also gave us her short biography, photos and a graphic portrait painted by her talented daughter.

We hope our visitors will be delighted with the new exhibits!

And we invite citizens and guests of Kropyvnytskyi to our additional exhibition! And for those who want to learn more about porcelain, we offer tours and our informative videos on YouTube! And very soon on our YouTube channel a new video about the second gift of Mrs. Elena!
