On March 19, 2021, the Art Museum hosted the opening of the exhibition "Theatrical Mirror of Kropyvnytskyi Puppeteeres", developed in collaboration with Kirovohrad Regional Academic Puppet Theater and Regional Universal Scientific Library. D.I. Chizhevsky to the World Puppet Day, which is celebrated on March 21.

The exposition is based on various theatrical instruments - puppets of different periods of the theater, costumes, scenery, posters and photos from the performances of the puppet theater troupe, as well as works of fine arts by Vasyl Ostapenko from the collection of the Museum of Arts and puppet sketches for Alice in the Country Natalia Kornilova, provided by the regional universal scientific library named after Dmytro Chyzhevsky.

It should be noted that the Kirovohrad Academic Regional Puppet Theater dates back to the pre-war years. For eighty years of activity, the theater team has created more than 200 highly artistic productions of classic works by world-famous authors: S. Perrault, G. H. Andersen, D. Radari, the Brothers Grimm, E.T.A. Hoffman, O. Pushkin, M. Gogol, I. Franko, S. Mikhalkov, S. Marshak, K. Chukovsky, O. Oles and modern children's playwrights: Yu. Chepovetsky, G. Usach and J. Zlatopolsky, M. Bartenev, N. Sheiko-Medvedeva, V. Nestayko and others.

This unique cultural institution has won many international and All-Ukrainian awards. Thus, in particular, for a significant contribution to the development and popularization of Ukrainian culture and theatrical art the theater staff in 2005 was awarded the Diploma of the regional state administration and regional council, and theater director Hryhoriy Pedko in 2006 for high creative achievements and promotion of theatrical art Diploma of the Ministry of Culture and Arts of Ukraine and the award of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ukraine "For achievements in the development of culture and arts" (2007). In 2009, the theater received the status of "academic", and its director became an honored cultural worker of Ukraine.

Vasyl Makarovych Ostapenko (1937-2012), its chief artist, a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, a member of the National Union of Theater Actors of Ukraine, an honored cultural worker of Ukraine, and the Kirovohrad Pope Carlo, gave more than 40 years of his life to the service of puppetry. Thanks to this talented master, about 150 theater performances were born. His works - paintings, models, dolls - were presented at theater exhibitions in Moscow, Tbilisi, Prague, Kiyv, Kharkiv, Lutsk, Kropyvnytskyi, 8 of them are presented at the presented exhibition.

A characteristic feature of the exhibition is its "three-dimensional" and diverse nature. Thus, the pearl of the exhibition was the scenery "Road to Bethlehem", which reflects the plot of biblical motives. Another scenery - "Nativity Scene", created for a mystical drama for adults based on the story "Viy" represents the history of theatrical art, because it is the Nativity Scene that is considered a proto-theater in Ukraine. The audience is also interested in theatrical costumes, which create an amazing carnival atmosphere.

Special attention should be paid to the puppet actors Piglet Nuf-nuf and Wolf - participants in the play "Three Piglets" directed by Volodymyr Kozlovskyi, which began the creative path of puppet theater in 1939. Its further history and colors of the repertoire are covered by the puppets presented in the exposition - the heroes of the performances: "Ivasyk-Telesyk", "Golden Key", "Purple Flower", "Homa and Pike" and others.

We are sure that the exhibition will be a resonant event in the cultural and artistic life of the city, because it is interesting and relevant for both adults and children.

Curator of the exhibition - Valeria Linchevska
