Museums are an important means of cultural exchange,

enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding,

cooperation and peace between nations

On May 18, 2021, an exhibition of works "Awakening" dedicated to the International Museum Day was opened  in the Art Museum.

Every year since 1977, May 18 has been celebrated around the world as International Museum Day. On this May day, museum workers - custodians, researchers and custodians of cultural heritage receive greetings from all over the world. In turn, museums offer a number of events, including free visits, opening of exhibition projects, rich cultural and artistic events and more.

By the way, since 1992, each International Museum Day has its own theme and the International Council of Museums (ISOM) provides an overview of related activities, making them accessible to all. This year, the Council of Museums proposed to celebrate the theme of the future of museums: reinventing and rethinking, which is extremely relevant in our daily lives.

The exhibition presents the creative work of painters from 27 works, which symbolize a wonderful gift to our visitors and fans on the occasion of a professional holiday - International Museum Day.

The main concept of the Awakening exhibition is to honor the main "culprit" of the holiday - the museum and the dedicated people who work in it, because they turn even a very beautiful architectural monument into a real temple of art. That is why in the central part of the exhibition are presented paintings that are a real dedication-anthem to the modern Museum of Arts. Among them is Anatoly Shapovalov's work "Art Museum" (2018), the uniqueness of which lies, in particular, in the fact that its author in his work usually turned to rural, not urban landscapes. The real highlight of the exhibition was the work of the head of the museum department - Peter Ossovsky's art gallery "World and Fatherland" by Anatoly Kimnatny "Museum of Arts" (2020), on the wall of which the Mural is already adorned. The originality of this work is that the people depicted in the picture are not casual passers-by, but employees and close friends of the museum…

The works that correspond to the title of the exhibition are symbolic, as they glorify the awakening of nature after snowy winter, severe frosts and other natural disasters with the help of paint and brushes, creating an atmosphere of irresistible and coveted spring that fills our hearts with hope, faith and optimism. Among them, oil paintings by Oleksandr Foynitsky “Courtyard. Lilac Bushes ”, Mykola Dobrolezha “Sakura Blossoms ”(1968), Volodymyr Fedorov “Spaces ”(1972), Andriy Khvorost “Apple orchard ”(2013). The rural idyll of the warm season permeates the works of Mykola Bondarenko "On the Outskirts" (1991), Vladislav Achkasov "After the rain" (2008) and Anatoly Gorbenko "Neighbor's Yard" (2009).

And yet most of the exhibition consists of incredible floral still lifes, which create a special holiday atmosphere. Leonid Bondar's "Peonies", Matviy Dontsov's "White Dahlias" (1964), Zinaida Sokolova's "Yellow Flowers" (1962), Nadezhda Kompaniets' "Phloxes" (1959), Anatoly Kimnatny's "Lilac" (2009), " White Lilac ”(2004) by Andriy Kadygrob. Alexander Budnikov's paintings "Daisies" (1978), Sergei Repko's "Wildflowers" (1977), Alexei Voltaire's "Snowdrops" (1920), Sergei Shapovalov's "Still Life at the Evening Window" (1987), " Bells ”(2004) by Sviatoslav Gorbenko.

The exposition is complemented by posters - interesting information and illustrative material, which presents the active exhibition activities of the museum and various cultural and artistic events.

The team of the Art Museum sincerely congratulates all museum staff on the holiday! We wish all of us peace, good health, creative energy, unquenchable passion, successful and interesting discoveries, success in professional activities, well-being, prosperity and harmony, optimism and decent pay!
