On July 12, 2021, the Art Museum presented a virtual exposition of works from the museum's collection dedicated to the Day of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. It is on July 12 that Orthodoxal Christians celebrate the Day of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. The holiday in honor of the apostles Peter and Paul marks the end of the Kupala celebrations "summer tops" and summer weddings, farewell to spring and preparation for haymaking among people.

The apostles Peter and Paul are especially revered as disciples of Jesus Christ, who, after the death and resurrection of Christ, began to preach and spread the teachings of the gospel throughout the world. The basis of the virtual exposition dedicated to the Day of the Holy Supreme Apostles Peter and Paul are the icons "Holy Apostle Peter" and "Saints Peter and Paul" from the fund collection of the Museum of Arts (the latter is currently being restored in the Odessa branch of the National Research Restoration Center of Ukraine).

The icon "Holy Apostle Peter" was painted in the late nineteenth century, made in the technique of oil painting. This icon belongs to the brush of a first-class icon painter. Every detail speaks of sophistication and harmony. Unfortunately, the story did not tell us the name of the author or authors of this work. But it is probably known that the icon stands out with its beauty, filled with a sincere prayerful mood, deep psychologism. Beauty is seen in every stroke of the holy face, and perfection is seen in every detail of the Holy Apostle's clothing. Our glorious compatriot Petro Pavlovych Ossovskyi did not miss the images of the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, depicting them in his works.

The exposition presents reproductions of works by Peter Ossovsky (1925-2015) "Apostle Peter", "Apostle Paul" and "Prayer" (the same picture "Prayer" can be viewed in the art gallery of Petro Ossovsky "World and Fatherland"). The work depicts a nun. Her face is very white, like wax, with a slightly protruding chin. She is holding a lighted candle. The burning candle is a symbol of prayer, purification. The nun is depicted against the background of the Holy Apostle Paul. Paul is the first Christian author whose works have come down to us, and he is the most authoritative figure in the history of Christian thought. His views played a huge role in shaping Christianity as an independent religion.

Saints Peter and Paul were honored immediately after their execution. According to church tradition, the death of the apostles occurred either in one day or with a difference of exactly one year.

The very appearance of the holiday is associated with the day of the transfer of their relics in Rome, which took place on July 12 (June 29 in the old style) 258.Of course, on this day people visited temples, where during Service they remembered the deeds of the apostles, their earthly affairs, prayed for the health of relatives and friends.
