Vladimir Kiryanov is a man with an ironic outlook on life.

His works are often seen as puzzles.

Although they are quite clear,

if you find the layer of culture that was behind it…

(Andrey Nadezhdin)

On March 15, 2021, the Art Museum presented a virtual exhibition of works "Such a bizarre world" dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the birth of a fellow artist, member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, winner of the regional award in Fine Arts and Art History named after Olexandr Osmyorkin in the category "New Approaches» (2010) Volodymyr Vasilyovych Kiryanov (1951-2017).

Good and sincere in communication, and sometimes frankly incredulous, absolutely simple, with an ironic attitude to the world around him, independent, with unique humor - this is how we remember the master graphic artist Volodymyr Kiryanov. Unfortunately, he has not been with us for four years, but the memory of this extraordinary man remains forever in our hearts…

Volodymyr Vasyliovych was born on March 15, 1951 in the city of Kirovohrad (now Kropyvnytskyi). From an early age he was interested in music, creativity, as a fully developed personality for a long time could not decide on a further life path, so after school he changed several schools, until he made the final choice in favor of fine arts. In the mid-1970s he studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the A. Lunacharsky Leningrad Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography (now the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts). The training itself helped to lay the foundations of his artistic thinking, gave the basics of a professional school, formed an artistic taste and a sense of proportion. After graduating, he returned to the city and worked as a designer of art and production workshops of the Art Fund of the USSR, at the plant "Hydrosila" (1980-93).

Creative enthusiasm and imagination, tireless work and constant self-improvement made Volodymyr Kiryanov a bright representative of the Ukrainian artistic elite, known far beyond our land, whose undeniable talent was officially confirmed in 1992 as a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. The artist has always been a regular participant in numerous exhibitions at the regional, national and international levels, including the IV exhibition of book graphics "Artist and Book" (Kyiv, 1983), International Biennial "Impreza-89", "Impreza-91" (Ivano-Frankivsk). Frankivsk), an exhibition of artists as part of the Year of Culture of Ukraine in Russia (Moscow, 2002). As an illustrator, Volodymyr Vasyliovych collaborated with publishing houses in Kropyvnytskyi, Kyiv, Chisinau, Kryvyi Rih, and Moscow. He created illustrations for Victor Shyla's books "The Needle Blade" and "Practice: 1962-1991" (1991), Mykola Somov's "Latin, by the way. Dictionary of Latin Expressions "(1992), Alexander Zhovna's" Widow "(1996), Grigory Huseynov" Station Pastorals. Confession of Childhood ”(1991), collections of poems by Valery Sidnin, Osip Mandelstam“ Favorites ”(1997), Valery Goncharenko“ Parade of Chimeras ”(1999) and others.

The originality of his work was manifested in many cartoons, numerous cartoons and drawings, book illustrations and later in computer graphics. Satire combined with mysticism, various chimeras turn his works into real phantasmagoric worlds that make everyone think. The artist's graphic compositions are recognizable, but they should be inspected slowly, thoughtfully, focusing on artistic images and symbols. He is ironic, but not offended, philosophically profound but not moralizing, an analyst, and at the same time a witty joker. The plots of the works can be so unexpected that you should look closely at every detail to understand the course of his thoughts…

I would also like to remind you that Kiryanov was a great cartoonist: the editors of almost all Kropyvnytskyi publications gladly took caricatures and humorous drawings by Volodymyr Vasyliovych. In these works, he ridiculed human flaws and vices with his unique style.

Twelve works by Kiryanov in the technique of ink and pen are stored in the stock collection of the Art Museum: two illustrations to the story by M.V. Gogol "How Ivan Ivanovych quarreled with Ivan Nykyforovych" (1983), "Forester" (1986), "Rats" (1988), "Ladder Festival" (1990), "Lumberjack" (1986), "Sleep or lethargy of conclusion", "Harmony of Disorder" (2006), "Sadness of the Stairs" (2006), "Fortress of St. Elizabeth" (2001), "Prince Potemkin" (2000), "Artist" (2002).

The master's graphic works are in the collection of the Art Museum and Olexandr Osmyorkin Art Memorial Museum in Kropyvnytskyi, the Exhibitions Directorate of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine and the Exhibitions Directorate of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and many private collections in Austria, Italy, russia, Israel and France.

Sparkling humor, satire and grotesqueness of the works, unique individuality of the artist's thinking gave reason to fans of Volodymyr Kiryanov's work to call him "our local Goya".
