Ukraine Unity Day is a holiday celebrated on a day of proclamation of the Act of Reunification of the Ukrainian People's Republic and the Western Ukrainian People's Republic. It occurred in city of Kyiv in Sophia`s Square on January 22nd, 1919. Reunion Act relied on the age-old dream of the Ukrainian people, independent, unified, national state. The Act of Unity gave a complete form to the independent Ukrainian state, helped to overcome the remnants of the ideas of federalism in the national political elites` mentality. President of Western Ukrainian People`s Republic, and soon, a member of The Directorate Eugen Petrushevych declared: “We had no disputes around the connection line. Today`s step will strenghten our spirit and bound our power”
Today, in 2021, a question of ukrainian lands` unitiy is of special interest. Russian military aggression threatens Ukraine`s integrity, alike as they did 100 years ago. Due to the abovementioned events, Crimea and separate parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions are being occupied by Russian Federation. The problem of liberation of occupied ukrainian lands is topical not only for Ukraine but fot the entire international community. As we see, the idea of integrity does not loose its content even after half ot the century. Ukraine`s in a need for chains of unification.
The topic of unity was always substantial among artists of different branches of art. Ukrainian artists never stand aside of social and political events in the state, thus unifying state`s regions as well as people`s souls and feelings by magnificent, highly artistic paintings.
The Art Museum of Kropyvnytky presents a digital esposition “Chain of Unity” dedticated to Ukraine Unity Day.
In essence, it is a collection of paintings representing all regions of Ukraine. It is based on paintings by such original masters of the brush of Kropyvnytskyi region, as L. Orlyk and his work "Tarkhankut" (1984), what symbolizes the unity of the southern Ukrainian lands, including the Crimea as an inseparable part of the state. Another master of painting S. Dryga, our famous compatriot, presented in the exhibition with the work "Synovyrska meadow" (2012), what shows the indivisibility of Ukraine, the inseparability of its territories, Transcarpathia in particular. Works of V. Popov "Yablunytsia Village" (1978), M. Glushchenko "Dnypro" (1972), M. Bondarenko "In Donetsk Region", S. Antonyuk's "Memories of Mother and Ukraine" (2009), M. Ryabokonya "Autumn on Ingulets" (2015), organically complement the exhibition. It is these works in the exhibition that symbolize the new, united and whole Ukraine, what now, despite the aggression, economic and social unrest has awakened from a terrible lethargic sleep and is on the right path to building the dream of a united, economically and socially successful state. We want to believe that the sun of freedom, has risen over ukrainian, thickly watered by patriots` blood soil, forever.
