The Art Museum presents a virtual exhibition of works "Illuminated by art "to the 95th anniversary of the birth of our compatriot Vasyl Leontiyovych Zavgorodny (1925-2009) - singer, poet, novelist, artist, Honored Artist of Ukraine, member of the National Union of Masters of Folk Art of Ukraine, winner of the Kateryna Bilokur Prize. By nature, Vasyl Leontiyovych was a very gifted person, rich with talents. The full realization of Vasyl Zavhorodny as an artist took place in adulthood, when he had the opportunity to fully dedicate himself to fine arts, his skill was manifested in various genres of fine arts: painting and graphics (watercolor, linocut, pastel), wood carving (relief and volume). sculpture), decorative painting. His artistic output is impressive: romantic landscapes, psychological portraits, works on ritual themes, symbolic and decorative paintings.

Vasyl Zavhorodniy created images of cossacks, princes and hetmans, musicians and kobzars, seers and ascetics, unforgettable characters of literary works, portraits of Ukrainian luminaries of the past and present. And all these artistic frankness of Zavgorodny traveled the worlds (Ukraine, Canada, the Czech Republic, Japan). The works are in the collections of the Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art, National Museum named after Taras Shevchenko, Museum named after Lesya Ukrainka in Kyiv , Museum named after Oleksandr Dovzhenko in Sosnytsia, National Union of Folk Art Masters of Ukraine, Museum named after Lesya Ukrainka in Georgia and others. In 2003, about two hundred of his works enriched the treasury of the National Historical and Ethnographic Reserve "Pereyaslav", calling to life the "Museum of Cossack Glory in the works of Vasily Zavgorodny."

Vasily Leontiyovych was born on October 26, 1925 in the village of Vodyane, Kompaniivskyi district, Kirovohrad region. He started drawing and sing when a child. Being in the eighth grade he won the district art Olympics, was going to the regional, but did not have time - - the war interfiered with his plans. He wanted to conscribe in order to get to the front line, they didn't take him - they refused, but at the first opportunity joined the ranks of defenders of the Fatherland.

After World War II ended, he served another five years in the military. After demobilization in 1950, fate brought Vasyl to the Kirovohrad Music and Drama Theater (Kirovohrad Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater named after ML Kropyvnytsky), where young man planned to get a job as an artist. But Vasyl Zavhorodny's singing skills did not go unnoticed. His magical baritone was heard by the luminary of Ukrainian singing Ivan Patorzhynsky. Thus, Vasyl Zavhorodniy became a student of the Kyiv State Conservatory (now the Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music) in the vocal class. After graduating in 1955, he was invited to the Capital Opera House (Taras Shevchenko National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater of Ukraine). Due to difficult living conditions, lack of adequate housing, Vasyl Zavgorodhniy moved to Alma-Ata (Kazakhstan) and returned to Ukraine four years later.

After a long career, he became a soloist of Zhytomyr Regional Philharmonic, and soon in 1960 - a soloist of  Ukrainian State Choir named after Hryhoriy Veryovka (National Honored Academic Ukrainian Folk Choir of Ukraine named after Hryhoriy Veryovka), where he was a soloist for 14 years. During the period of his creative activity the artist took part in regional, all-Ukrainian art exhibitions, since 1959, he was the author of numerous personal exhibitions (1972 - 2010).

In March 2009, on the initiative of the Zavhorodnykh family, the works of Vasyl Zavhorodnyi were presented for the first time at the Art Museum (Kirovohrad Regional Art Museum) at his first solo exhibition dedicated to the All-Ukrainian Day of Cultural Workers and admirers of folk art. In 2015, an exhibition of works "Gifted with talents" was opened, timed to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Vasyl Leontiyovych Zavgorodny. In total, over ten years, the fund collection of the Museum of Arts, thanks to the artist's daughter Elena Vasilyevna, replenished by 700 works.

These are various male and female portraits, landscapes, wooden sculptural compositions - images of prominent figures of Ukrainian history and culture, compositions on Cossack themes, design objects. In 2015-2017, Zavgorodna Olena Vasylivna handed 500 works by Vasyl Zavhorodny to the Historical Museum of the Kompaniivka District and the Yuri Yanovsky Memorial Museum, as well as to the Vodian Secondary School of the 1st-2nd grades of the Kompaniivka District Council of the Kirovohrad Region. According to many researchers, Vasyl Zavhorodny managed to organically combine the best folk traditions with his own worldview, extraordinary artistic flair.
