On October 1, 2020, a virtual exposition of works "Gold of the Years" to the International Day of the Elderly and Veteran's Day will be presented at the Art Museum.
Elderly are an inexhaustible source of folk wisdom, their practical life experience, unbridled energy, optimism and active public position are often simply amazing. They inherit all the most valuable things they have accumulated over a lifetime. All over the world, October 1 is the annual International Day of Older Persons, and in Ukraine - Veteran's Day. This is a good, bright and very relevant holiday, because it once again draws attention to the many problems of the elderly that exist in our society. Ukraine, as a full member of the United Nations, has supported the initiative of the international community and has been celebrating this day since 1991.
The decision on the annual celebration of the International Day of the Elderly in Ukraine and the creation of appropriate conditions for social protection of pensioners, the disabled and single disabled citizens was approved by government decree of September 26, 1997 № 1066 "On the annual celebration of the International Day of the Elderly". According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine of September 24, 2004 № 1135/2004 On October 1, Ukraine also celebrates Veteran's Day.
According to the updated international classification, an elderly person is a person who has reached 60 years of age. There are about 700 million such people in the world, and this is almost every tenth person on Earth. According to the UN, by 2050 the number of those over 60 will reach 2 billion people. According to experts, the growing number of elderly people in the world indicates an improvement in the quality of life in general, which in itself is a significant achievement. However, in many developing countries, aging is still associated with weak social security and declining incomes. In the world rankings for the standard of living of the elderly, Ukraine (and this is very sad) traditionally occupies one of the last places. And every year these figures are lower and lower. The most comfortable countries for elderly people to live in are Switzerland, the Scandinavian countries, Germany and Canada.
With the virtual exhibition of works "Gold of the Years" from the stock collection of the Museum of Arts, we draw attention to the elderly and the opportunity to remind everyone of the human duty to be caring and compassionate to the most respectable part of society. This is a reason to think about the future the fate of all mankind, its culture and the relationship of generations. For viewing, we offer you to enjoy oil and graphic works performed by fellow artists – A.M. Nuremberg (1887-1979) "Lyricist" (1929), I.G. Savenko (1924-1987) "Farmer Evdokia Pazenko" (1969) , L.V.
