The exhibition «The Master of Lyrical Landscape» of talented fellow countryman artist, poet, screenwriter Yuri Botnar (1948-2016) was opened to the 70 years of birthday anniversary in the Kirovohrad Regional Art Museum on the 21 of December in 2018.

            Without exaggeration, he was a kind, sincere person, good artist and selfless friend.

            He was destined to live an active, full of various events life, becoming one of those artists who formed the artistic face of Kirovograd region, glorifying it far beyond Ukraine.

            Yuriy Semenovich Botnar was born on 21 of December in 1948 in Kirovograd, although his passport was marked with a different date – the 1st of January in 1949. He graduated from the Kirovohrad children's art school in 1963 as a part of its first graduation, and graduated from Kyiv Art-Industrial College in 1968. He successfully passed graduation examinations at the graphic faculty of the Ukrainian Printing Institute named after Ivan Fedorov, making another significant step on the way to the artistic Olympus in 1987.

            Yuri Semenovich was working in our city as an artist at the artistic production workshops of the artistic stock of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic from 1972 to 1989. He was repeatedly awarded with certificates and thanksgivings for the active creative work, he was a laureate of the regional literary prize named after Yuriy Yanovsky. The artist went to the republican level, illustrating books in the publications: "Soviet writer", "Rainbow", "Youth" in the 1980's.

            Yuriy Botnar is a participant in personal, joint, republican and international art exhibitions:

1970 - exhibition of the Kirovograd garrison to the day of armed forces (Kirovograd art gallery);

1972-1989 - participation in regional art exhibitions;

1984 - Republican exhibition "Artist and book" in Kyiv.

1985 - Republican exhibition to the Victory Day in the Second World War in Kyiv.

            The artist was the founder of the creative association of young artists "Barva" in 1989, which systematically organized various exhibitions, among them - the International Exhibition of Victor Vasarely`s Op Art in the cities of Ukraine (1989-1992)

1990 - Exhibition of Ukrainian Fine Arts in Canada and the USA and exhibition "Scythian Gold" in Turku, Finland;

1990 - an exhibition of Ukrainian artists in Edmonton to the 100th anniversary of the settlement of Ukrainians in Canada;

1992 - Exhibition of Ukrainian Landscape and Still Life in Berlin (Germany);

1995-1998 - participation in exhibitions of the creative association "Barva";

2009 - personal exhibition of plener painting and still life

in the Kirovohrad Regional Art Museum;

2010 - personal exhibition "Touch of the Rainbow" at the Ukrainian Culture Foundation in Kyiv;

2011 - personal exhibition in the "Wunjo-Art" gallery in Kyiv;

2012 - Participation in a group exhibition at the Hetmanate Museum in Kyiv

2014 - Solo exhibition "Between the past and the future" in Kirovograd regional art museum.

            Confirmation of the high professional level of the artist is that his works are in museums and private collections of Ukraine, the USA, Canada, Germany, Finland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Armenia, Israel, Russia. The fact that our fellow countryman was one of the founders of the charitable foundation Sergey Parajanov is also eloquent. But wherever he throws up his active creative life, the artist has never broken ties with his small homeland.

            The exhibition of memory of Yuriy Semenovich Botnar, an artist-painter, a wonderful graphic artist, an outstanding master of the landscape, we called as the "Master of the Lyrical Landscape", because the leading genres of the artist`s work were always a landscape and still life, imbued with Ukrainian color and love to his native land...

            Most of the works in the exhibition were given by Anna Botnar, she is the daughter of artist. Among them are «Self-portrait» (1970), «Silent sadness of October» (2013), «At the End of Summer Night» (2011), «Ending October» (2010), «Portrait of a Wife» (1970).

            Also, the exhibition presents paintings and graphics from the stock collection of the regional art museum. These works are «Autumn Still Life» (2008), «The Last Day of Autumn. The River Ingul» (1980), «Coolness of the Fall» (2013), «Asked for a fall autumn to congratulate» (2013), «Bright April» (2013), «At the End of Rainy May» (2014).

            Yurii Botnar belonged to those fans of plener painting who are clearly aware that working with nature is very difficult, because its limitless perfection simply can not be reproduced. However, the nature and landscape contain the universal experience and language that the artist cannot ignore, always returning to his favorite genre, this time using the technique of watercolor.

            Yuri Semyonovich's works amaze by their unpretentiousness, freshness, immediacy, contain the combination of generosity, richness and harmony of colors.

            The work «Weekend on the Dnieper» (2012) of Yuri Botnar was given by the artist`s family this year for the Ninth Easter Charity Auction.

            And also we know Yuri Semenovich as a poet which uses the pseudonym Georgy Sibodich. The artist was actively engaged in creative activity in the field of cinema and literature. During his lifetime, he published the first screenplay entitled "Behind the Scenes of Surrealism" and began work on the second.

            The exhibition is complemented by a printed version of the scenario "The Socialist Realm Clinic" (given by the daughter of Anna Botnar), a film with the staff of the Kirovohrad Art Foundation (given by the wife of the artist Anna Bohkova), books with artistic subjects were also passed by the artist's daughter and documentary and archival materials from the museum stock collection, which acquainted us with the life and art of the artist.
