Who are they, the "left handers"? What is their secret and wonder, since evolutionary processes are perfect and everything appears on purpose? Lefthanding varies life and fulfills it with peculiarity. Left Handlers are globaly acknowledged as unique people with distinctive talents. Left-handed were Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Auguste Rodin, Pablo Picasso, Peter Paul Rubens, Albrecht Dyerer and many other famous artists, politicians, musicians, and actors, seared into history. This is a personal topic for me, because I am also a Left Hander.
For the first time, the International Left Handeers Day was celebrated on August 13, 1992, by the initiative of the British Left-Handers Club.
The Oblast Art Museum again publishes stories of the artists who were creating their masterpieces with their left hand. This time the display of art works of museum collection, called "Art of been Left Hander" tells a few completely opposing stories of left-handed artists.
The first story is about a talented, left-handed artist Andrii Kadyhrob. The displeay exhibits his art works: "Dzvinochky" ("Bells") (2003) and "Zbyrannia Hmyzu" ("Dry Branches Picking")(2006). He works with oil paints. The artist creates vivid and dramatic landscapes and still-life paintings in the best traditions of the realistic style with bold interpretations of shapes and colors. He is a participant of many oblast and state art exhibitions. The first solo exhibition of the young artist, "The First Meeting", was held in Kirovohrad Oblast Art Museum in November 2004. Further, there were solo exhibitions in the Oleksandr Osmorkin Kirovohrad Art and Memorial Museum, in Kyiv art galleries and in the National Sanctuary "Sofiia Kyivska" within the framework of the project "Treasures of Ukrainian Museums on the Holy Land of Sophia of Kyiv". Andrii Kadyhrob's art works are also exhibited in private galleries of Kyiv, Prague, Budapest, Paris and other cities of the world. In 2006 he was the laureate of the Cabinet of Ministers Award for special achievements of youth in the development of Ukraine, in the nomination "For Creative Achievements". Andrii Mykolaiovych was merely absorbed by the whirl of our city's interesting projects. In 2009 Andrii Kadyhrob initiated an Easter charity auction, co-organizers of which were the media group "Ves (Whole) Kirovohrad" and the Kirovohrad Oblast Art Museum. This event was the first auction of art works in our city and has been held successfully until today. The life and art path of the artist continues to gain momentum.
The story of another artist from our oblast is dramatically opposite.Ivan Savenko, just like Repin, had to learnto draw with his left hand, because Ivan lost his right limb during the Second World War near Kakhovka back in 1943... The surgeon rescued young Ivan and asked whim about his desirable profession, and Savenko answered that he wanted to study at the Art Institute. The doctor advised not to get grieved and reminded about Repin. Since then, everything changed: he was training his left hand all day long by writing sticks and circles. Thus he managed to master the complex art of being left-handed. His son, Mykola, writes about this: "...It seemed that the fate had condemned the death sentence. However, by the incredible power of will, he bade something incredible... and became a Left Hander... ". In 1944, his dream came true and he entered Kyiv Art Institute. I. Savenko was born on January 17, 1924 in the village of Varvarivka (Dolynska district, Kirovohrad oblast) in the family of wealthy farmers of Cossack descent. During the collectivization and dispossession period, togather with his parents, he was exiled to Siberia. In 1930s the future artist studied at the secondary school in Ural, later - at Kizelov Mining Technical School. Important event in the artist's life was the acquaintance with art critic M. Sieriebriannikov.
His masterpieces are lyrical, philosophical and impress with the depth of the image and interplay of color. Making his creations, the artist used his own special technique. He went down on his knees and stretched the canvas with his teeth, till the stretched canvas "rang". His muse, model and mysterious companion became the surrounding beauty of nature. In 1952 he became a member of the Artists' Union of USSR. Savenko also participated in many exhibitions. In 1954 he defended his thesis and was awarded the degree of the Candidate of art. Famous artist Tatiana Yablonska described Savenko in the following way: "Until now, the artist's inexhaustible love of nature, art and his tireless work are striking."
The display "Art of Been Left Hander"presents the portrait of Ivan Savenko's mother "Hliborob (Plowman) Yevdokiia Pazenko" (1969). This portret was presented to the collection of the Kirovohrad Oblast Art Museum in December 2017 with the assistance of the historian, ethnographer, candidate of economic sciences Vladyslav Serdiuk and Oleh Babenko, Chairman of the regional organization of the Ukraine National Union of Local History Studies, Chief of the State Archive of Kirovohrad oblast. On the portrait you can see the sad face of the elderly woman, who sits on the bench. She piercingly and clearly stares with her brown eyes. Her sprained with labor hands lie on their knees. These hands were the emphesis, made by the artist, because these hands were working hard on ground all life long to breath life into spikelet, which later was turned into bread. Near the bench the artist depicted the loaf of bread, on the other side from mother there is a spikelet sheaf and behind the women there is an embroidered linen. This is not just a picture, but both a portrait and biography, in which the figure, the seal of sadness on the face and the interior tell about the tragedy of the artist's family. At the same time, the portrait tells about the tragedy of the entire Ukraine, as during the Soviet regime a great number of families were ruined, dispossessed and expelled from their native land. By the way, Savenko was fond of writing several variants of one masterpiece. Portrait of mother was not an exception. In 1976 and 1979, several more variants were produced. The image of the mother is the same, but the pattern and the color of clothing and interior are varied. These works of the artist are available in the book "I. Savenko. Selected Works ", which together with other materials is represented in the display window.
Two incredibly talented artist, two stories united by a skillful ability to master the brush with the left hand.
