"A man who inspired with his talent, incredible thirst for life, hard work and efficiency..."- so the grandson of a talented artist Danylo Gurin wrote about the loss. On October 18, 2018, almost 40 days have passed since the national artist of Ukraine Vasil Ivanovych Gurin left for other worlds. Honoring the memory of the famous painter at the Regional Art Museum the exposition "Creative Burning" was opened.
Vasyl Ivanovych Gurin was born on March 18, 1939 in the village of Dzhurchy (Pervomayske, Crimea) in a peasant family. In 1954-1959 he studied at the Simferopol Art School, and in 1959 he entered the Kyiv State Art Institute at the Faculty of Painting, where he studied at Mykola Pysanka, Karp Trokhymenko, and Mykola Storozhenko. Since 1969 he has taught at the National Academy of Pictorial Arts and Architecture of Ukraine. In 1987 he became a Professor, and since 1989 he headed the Department of Painting and Composition. Then he directed the educational and creative studio of easel painting. In teaching, he adhered to the principle of not imposing his own opinion to his students, but only tried to reveal their talent and their own creative abilities. Through explanation and visual representation of harmony he taught to unravel the secrets of nature, to sharpen the inner feelings for the learning of the mystery of works.
For merits in the development of Ukrainian pictorial art and high professional skills in 1992, V. Gurin was awarded the honorary title “National Artist of Ukraine”. During 1997-2005, he headed the Kiev Organization of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
Vasyl Gurin immediately declared himself as an artist with distinctive figurative thinking. He worked in the field of easel painting. He was the author of thematic paintings, portraits, landscapes and still lives. His works are insightful, sensual and emotional. Remaining faithful to the realistic school of painting, he avoids the scholasticism of сonventionality or naturalism. In recent years, a special place in the work of the artist takes chanting and praising nature. Landscapes like a musical symphony in colors - unique, lyrical and always carry light and positive. V. Gurin spent a lot of time among nature, discovering new horizons of creative burning. It was among the clean calm landscapes that he managed to catch a special moment and keep it on the canvas forever. The artist has always remained apolitical and independent, wrote exactly what he cared about and inspired.
The exhibition "Creative Burning" in memory of the National Artist of Ukraine presents landscapes of V. Gurin from the fund collection of the Regional Art Museum "Winter Evening"(1979) and "Autumn" (1979), which reveal the ability to convincingly reproduce the unique variety of beauty of Ukraine. In his work, the artist successfully harmonizes the saturation, the intensity of painting with the composition subordinated to a clear concept. The works are characterized by symbolism, original composition, the search for the ratio of warm and cold colors.
Especially relevant is the painting "Autumn" with the image of the landscape represented by the palette inherent only in the autumn season, which reminds visitors of the scenery outside the window. The composition of the work at first glance is simple; the figure of the artist at work in a forest glade attracts particular attention. And this is only at first glance. Looking closely you understand that it tells the whole story and is full of symbolism. After all, Vasyl Gurin himself loved to create alone among the picturesque corners of nature.
Vasyl Ivanovych's heart stopped beating on October 10, 2018. The artist was buried at the Menagerie cemetery in Kiev, but his story did not stop, because he founded an art dynasty - the artist's son and grandson continue the work. His works are kept in famous Ukrainian and foreign museums, as well as in private collections. Creativity will always remind of the great talent of the master.
