Ukrainian National Unity Day is a holiday that is celebrated every year on the declaration day of the reunification act of Ukrainian People's Republic and Western Ukrainian People's Republic, which took place on January 22, 1919 at St. Sophia Square in Kyiv. The Unification Act was deeply historically determined and relied on the lasting dream of Ukrainian people about an independent, unified, national state. The Unification Act gave complete form to the independent Ukrainian state, contributed to overcoming of federalism ideas remnants in the national political elite mentality.
President of the West Ukrainian National Republic and later a member of the Directory Yevhen Petrushevych claimed: "On the connection line there were no two ideas between us. Today's step will lift our spirits and fortify our strengths".
Today in 2017 the unity of Ukrainian lands is an extremely hard and relevant issue. Russian military aggression like a hundred years ago threatens the integrity of the Ukrainian state, as a result of the military aggression Autonomous Republic of Crimea and some regions of Donetsk and Luhansk oblast are now occupied. The question of Ukrainian territories release is a serious problem not only of Ukraine but of the whole world community. So we can see that as a century ago the idea of national unity does not lose its sense, the state needs connection chains again.
Nowadays, after the Dignity Revolution, Ukraine received an extraordinary explosion of national patriotic consciousness awakening. In Ukrainian cities on the National Unity Day various activities will be held: in Dnipro a memorial to the Ukrainian People's Army soldiers will be opened, in Kiev the memorial plaque to Ukrainian People's Army Colonel, one of the founders of Ukrainian nationalists organization Yevhen Konovalets will be opened.
In the regional art museum of Kropyvnytskyi the display “United Ukraine” is presented for the National Unity Day. It is based on original paintings by such master-painters of Kropyvnytskyi as Volodymyr Fedorov (1920-1986) and his work "Hurzuf" 1980, symbolizing the unity of the southern Ukrainian lands, including the Crimea with all the state. Another painting master Anatolii Horbenko (1944) - our prominent countryman, who, by the way is for many years the head of the Odessa regional organization of the National Artists Union of Ukraine, presented in the display with his work "Valley under Rahov" 2006 showing the indivisibility of Ukraine, in particular its land inalienability of Rahiv area at Hutsul region, in Transcarpathians. The painting by Serhii Shyshko (1911-1997) organically complement the display :"Kyiv. Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Square "1954, showing the splendor and the unique beauty of our nation's capital - the city of Kyiv, and by Borys Yehorov (1925) "The path to Hoverla" 1970, demonstrating the display viewer symbolic or even sacred place for all Ukrainians – the mountain Hoverla. The work by another master of Steppe Ellada, famous artist countryman Borys Vintenko (1927-2002) "After the Rain" 1999, symbolizing at the display that new, unified Ukraine, which now in spite of the aggression, economic and social problems, woke up after long terrible years of lethargic sleep, and is on the right way to build long-awaited united, unified, economically successful state. One wants to believe that over Ukrainian land that is heavily watered with the blood of patriots, the sun of freedom rose forever.
