I make sunny flowers for I love people,
I create for the their joy and happiness,
for all people to love each other,
for them to live like flowers all over the earth …
Maria Pryimachenko
On 17 January, 2017 in Kirovohrad Regional Art Museum the exhibition “Enchanted Forest” of folk fine and decorative arts studio “Pysanka” of Kirovograd Regional Center for Children and Youth Creativity was opened to honor the memory of Ukrainian folk artist Maria Pryimachenko (born Mariya Oksentiyivna Prymachenko) (1908 -- 1997).
... The "animal series" of Maria Pryimachenko is a unique phenomenon, which indeed has no analogues either in the domestic or in the world art. Her artworks with all its identity have something in common with folk pictures, but her fantastic animals are a work of the artist’s imagination. Large forms of quaint animals, a real downpour of colors combined with ornamental development of the body help to create impressive for its emotional power image. And here the magic of true art comes into effect: animals seem to move, breathe, grow before our eyes. Works of Maria Pryimachenko are like a world in which folk song, rhythm and color, image and decor combine with an extraordinary artistic power. And all of this happens in an incredible expression of movement, internal dynamics. When Maria was asked why she painted nonexistent animals and flowers, she replied: "Why to paint them such as they are - they are beautiful themselves, and I draw for the joy of people. I want more people to see my pictures, and I want everybody to like them.
Pictures of this extremely hard-working and talented woman can not be confused. Strange animals, fantastic birds and bright colors in the works of the artist easily appeal to people and give smiles. Maria Pryimachenko is a simple woman from a small village in the Kyiv region taught the whole world to believe in fairy tales. The most famous artist of Ukraine spent almost the whole life in Bolotnia village. Meanwhile her artworks conquered Paris, Montreal, Prague. She became a muse to Pablo Picasso and inspired Marc Chagall.
Almost for half a year the pupils of the studio "Pysanka" studied the life and work of Maria Oksentiyivna Pryimachenko and worked at creating their own fantastic wonder-animals, using their imagination and their own vision. The exhibition named "Enchanted Forest" presents 100 fairy drawings and 30 three-dimensional figures made of plasticine. In general, 120 children aged 6 to 14 years took park in the creation of the exhibition.
For reference:
Folk fine and decorative arts studio "Pysanka" was created in 1995. The heads of the studio are a talented, creative, enthusiastic teacher, an Excellent Teacher of Ukraine Svitlana Storozhenko (40 years work experience at Kirovograd Regional Center for Children and Youth Creativity) and a member of the National Union of Folk Art of Ukraine Tetiana Storozhenko (13 years work experience at Kirovograd Regional Center for Children and Youth Creativity).
Pupils of the studio (children aged from 5 to 17 years) begin to master since their childhood the details of fine art, modeling folk toys, compositions made of salt dough, decorative painting, pysankarstvo (the art of decorating Easter eggs), get acquainted with the history, culture and customs of Ukrainians, with Ukrainian and world famous artists’ works of fine and decorative art.
"Sunday School of Pysankarstvo for Parents and Children" is running at the studio for already 17 years. This course of Easter eggs decorating is a unique phenomenon in Ukrainian non-school education, because all the family works close together. This work brings family members together, gives parents an opportunity to understand their child better, to get to know the world of his/her hobbies. And on the other hand it is an opportunity for the children to feel the attention of their parents once again.
In 2009 Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine awarded the studio the title of “Exemplary art collective” for a high level of workmanship, fruitful creative work and active social position, and the honorary status “Folk Artistic Group” in 2013.
The pupils of the studio “Pysanka” are laureates and recipients of prizes at international, national and regional competitions and festivals, among them first and second class certificates of the All-Ukrainian contest of Easter attributes and pysanky “Oi Numo Numo Zapletemo Shuma” (Kyiv, 2010); first class certificates of the All-Ukrainian contest of Easter eggs decorating “Pysanka, Revive!” (Kyiv, 2010, 2012); first, second and third class certificates of the All-Ukrainian festival of children’s and youth’s art dedicated to World Earth Day in nominations “Fine Art”, “Pysankarstvo”, “Modelling” (Kirovohrad, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016); first, second and third class certificates of the exhibition-contest of decorative-applied and fine arts “Know and Love your Land” (Kyiv, 2005-2016); first class certificates of the All-Ukrainian contest “Christmas Star” (Kyiv, National Museum of Architecture and Life of Ukraine, 2013).
