The Europe Day is a symbol of successful launch of a new model of peaceful cooperation between nations based on shared values and interests.
The starting point on the way to establish the Europe Day was Schuman Declaration.
May 9, 1950 in Paris, the Foreign Minister of Paris Robert Schuman made a call to France, Germany and other European countries to combine their coal and steel industry (foundations to build the military equipment) and give them a new supranational governance structure. It became "a cornerstone of European federation". By combining the efforts of economic progress and distribution, the European countries avoided the accumulation of military power against each other and it ensured the peace in Europe.
The decision to celebrate 9 May the Europe Day in the EU was adopted in 1985 at the Summit of the European Council in Milan. By 1997, this holiday had mostly cultural, artistic direction and had a limited nature.
In 1997 – 1998 the state candidates joined to the celebration of the Europe Day for EU membership. In these countries, the celebration has acquired a certain political overtones and was aimed at shaping public opinion on support for accession to the European Union. There were regional conferences and round tables conducted; public debates, appearances on television and radio public figures; broad public awareness campaign; cultural entertainment and sporting events etc.
The main idea is that every inhabitant of the continent, regardless of his nationality and citizenship, should feel himself free in "the Europe home".
Ukraine is the only state not an EU member, which at the national level the Europe Day is marked (this day is also celebrated in the candidate countries - Macedonia and Turkey).
For thirteen years in Ukraine, and in Kirovograd, in the 3rd Saturday of May the Europe Day is celebrated, according to the Decree of the President of Ukraine from April 19, 2003 №339 / 2003 "About the Day of Europe".
In the Europe Day people of Ukraine celebrate the day of shared values, common history of all nations of the continent.
By the way. In 1887 in Zakarpatia (which then was a part of Austria-Hungary) there was six-foot geodesic mark established that indicates the geographical center of Europe in Verhnetisianska hollow on the right bank of Tysa.
The coordinates of this geographical center of Europe: 47 ° 563'north latitude and 24 ° 1130' east longitude (from the Internet).
In 2016, the Europe Day in Ukraine falls on 21 May.
Ukraine Europe Day celebration is not only our chance to say "Hey! We are here! ", but also realize that geographically we are the European country, so we only left to join her by our heart and mind. And it should be mentioned not about education, but about the cultural level, focus on new, progressive, respect for others, understanding and upholding dignity.
The virtual exhibition "The Corners of Europe" aims to show European kaleidoscope of landscapes in paintings collection from the Kirovograd Regional Art Museum, among which a prominent place is occupied to Ukrainian ones.
