On the 30th of September, 2016 the exhibition of artworks in memory of Pavlo Olehovych Oleksiienko (1979-2016), a young artist that had suddenly left this word, opened in Kirovohrad Regional Art Museum.

Almost 40 days have passed since Pasha Oleksiienko is no more with us... The news of his sudden death on 24th of August striked everybody who knew this cheerful, always smiling young man, whom God gave an artistic talent he couldn’t develop to the full extend. It was in August this year that the museum was supposed to open an exhibition of three friends - Pavlo Oleksiienko, Dmytro Tarasenko and Maxym Nakonechnyi called "The Sea in You or in Me”. But, regrettably, it didn’t happen. Good memory about him will live forever in our hearts...

Pavlo Olehovych Oleksiienko was born on 9th of July, 1979 in Kirovohrad. From 1989 to 1994 he studied at Kirovohrad Children’s Art School named after Oleksander Osmerkin. After finishing a secondary school he studied at Kirovohrad Institute of Regional Management and Economics on Faculty of Industrial Design from 1996 to 1998. From 1998 to 2006 Paul suspended with his creative work, dealing with other things, and in 2006 he entered Grekov Odessa Art school, studying the design of theatrical activities (teacher of drawing and painting A. Barkov). In 2011 he became a graduate and continued his study at Odessa State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture (2011 -- 2012).

Pavlo Oleksiienko began to work in his field already during his study. In 2008 he actively participated in the design of the play "the Odessa Yard", for which he was awarded a charter of honour of Charitable Foundation for Children with disabilities. In 2012 he took part in art project "Night at the Theatre", which was held in Ostrovskyi Odessa Young People's Theatre. In 2013 he was a participant of the International Festival cartoons, which took place in Odessa and was dedicated to the citizens of Odessa’s favorite holiday, April Fools' Day. He also took part in “Museum of Nonexistent Objects” as part of Odessa Biennale this year.

His first solo exhibition in his native town took place right in Kirovohrad Regional Art Museum in 2014. 25 artworks created during 2008 - 2014 were presented at the exhibition. These works were included, just as Pavlo intended, into the project “Faces”. They reflected the search for his own style and identity, and enabled visitors to sense the inner world of the artist. A key theme of the artist’s artworks is the face and its expression in certain periods of life, that both express and mask its emotions.

An exhibition of paintings «OUTER _SPACE», a joint project with Dmytro Tarasenko, was presented in the museum in 2015 Artists in their works (there were more than 30 of them) combined space subject with reality, and drawing attention to a wide scope of fantasy, which had no limits.

The work by Pavlo Oleksiienko "Cat" won the third place in the category "Adults and Students" in the competition for the best artistic work “The Healing Power of Art", which was held in the end of last year together with the Kirovohrad Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Kirovohrad Regional Art Museum. His work (and works of winners) decorates the renewed building of children's regional hospital.

Pavlo didn’t stay aside from charity as well. Thus, he gave his painting “Benia” in 2015 and the picture “Moon Cat” in 2016 for Easter charity auctions.

I also would like to note his being modest, somewhat shy, he had open views on life of a man who despite all obstacles constantly tried to learn something new, to find his own style in art. There was something childish and ingenuous about him. Pasha was sometimes called a beam man.

They say, artists live forever for they live an artistic trace behind them.  The master stays alive as long as lives his/her picture.  Among the museum co-workers there appeared a thought to create an exhibition of to the creative heritage of the artist. Pasha’s dear and near whom he had given a lot of his artworks, gladly responded to this offer. The interesting fact is that Pasha, giving his pictures, signed them with humourous words. And girls confessed he was an extreme romantic: he sent greeting cards and pictures in envelopes to different holidays ... Nowadays it is rare.

At the exhibition there were first of all those artworks given for displaying by Pasha’s mother, Antonina Ivanivna. There were also artworks that Pavlo Oleksiienko had given to his friends, fellow students, doctors, who fully supported him. They are Dmytro Tarasenko, Maryna Burika, Olena Gorelova, Oleksander Neliub, Tymofii Maliuk, Yuliia Kladnitska, Olha Kovpak, Oleksander Pokutsa Artem Levchenko, Sergii Harashchenko, A. V. Kolobanova, M. P. Kolesnyk.

Oil paintings “Blue-eyed” (2013) and “Cosmohetman” (2015) were presented from the museum’s collection.

Separately, we would like to express our gratitude to philanthropist Yaroslav Bublyk, who transferred the artwork “Benia” (2012) bought at the VI Easter Charity Auction to the exhibition, to the chief physician of children's regional hospital Vasyl Horoshchak for the opportunity of exhibiting paintings «Cat» (2015), and to Tigran Khachatrian, who not only bought the picture “Moon cat” (2015)  at the VII Easter Charity Auction, but also decided to transfer the artwork to the museum. That is what for a “catfusion”... happened to painted cats of Pavlo Oleksiienko.

Printed material: photographs, drawings, gratitudes, which acquaint us with the life and career of the artist complemented the exhibition.

P.S.

...It is believed that the soul finally leaves the earth and flies away to another world, to God, and waits for God's judgment on the fortieth day after death. So, we ask everybody who knew Pasha to pray for him.
