Petro Pavlovych Ossovskii is a People's Artist of the USSR, a USSR State Prize and an international M. Sholokhov prize winner, a member of the RussianAcademy of Arts. He was born on May 18, 1925 in the village Mala Vyska in Kirovohrad region. In 1950 he graduated from V.I. Surykov State Art Institute. Since 1956 he has been a member of the USSR Artists Union.
The paintings of Petro Ossovskii are placed in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, the Kyiv National Museum of Russian Art, the Donetsk Regional Art Museum, the Odessa Regional Art Museum, the Kharkiv Art Museum, the Kirovohrad Regional Art Museum, the Kirovohrad Regional Museum, the National Art Museum of Belarus, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the StateRussianMuseum and other museums, galleries and private collections in Ukraine, Russia and in numerous foreign collections.
P.P. Ossovskii is known as a founder of "severe style" in art. Petro Pavlovych also received numerous international, state, church, community and other awards.
On May 18, 2007 there was the opening of the Department of the KirovogradRegionalArt Museum – The Petro Ossovskii Art Gallery "The world and the Motherland." Also in 2007 the Petro Ossovskii art galleries were opened in the Russian Federation "Pskov motives" (Pskov, the Pskov museum-reserve) and "Pushkin and Pskov region" (Pushkinohorye, Pushkin Reserve). In 2012 a gallery of artist's works "Izborsk Chamber" (Izborsk, Pskov region of the Russian Federation) was opened.
In 2008 Petro Pavlovych got the title "Honorary Citizen of Pskov".
The artist lives and works in Moscow. However, his relationships with the homeland are not interrupted even today.
Before New Year’s holidays Petro Pavlovych transferred a series of paintings depicting portraits of countrymen painted in Mala Vyska in 1964 to enlarge the funds collection of the KirovohradRegionalArt Museum. These works complemented the graphics of the artist stored in the museum collection glorifying residents of Mala Vyska. They created a series of interesting graphics, dedicated to fellow citizens of the artist and became a good present for all fans of fine art of the region.
