Еxhibition – our compatriot Leontii Semenovych Zharenko «Odessa motives»
On 22 July 2014 in Kirovohrad regional art museum was opened exposition of artist works – compatriot Leontii Semenovych Zharenko (1899-1977).
Painter and graphic artist Leontii Semenovych Zharenko (pseudonym – Zhei), was born on August 23, 1899 in Yelesavethrad. From 1934 to 1938 he studied in Odessa art school, where his instructors were Danyl Krainiev and Oleksandr Shovkunenko. He workes in the field of easle painting, basically with watercolour.
Leontii Semenovych Zharenko was paticipant of Great Patriotic War, and was honored by number battle awards.
From 1938 to 1944 and from 1945 to 1949 – worked in Odessa art school.
L. S. Zharenko passed away on April 23, 1977 in Odessa.
The leading theme of the artist creation was image of native land and city, which became his second matherland – southern gem, coastal Odessa, in which the artist lived all his life. He drew landscapes, in which is present not only wonderful scenery, but the artist with all his lovy to everything, that is connected with Motherland, and desire to depict human unity with nature. Leontii Semnovych strive for giving his own thoughts and feelings to sea and sky, grass and ground, flowers and wind. He depict Odessa with enthusiasm – the city in all its glory: vivid streets, stone coasts, monuments, calm beaches.
In 2009, for the first time in Kirovohrad regional art museum, on the occasion of 110th birth anniversary, in the hall of artist-copatriots was hold exposition of artist works.
At the exposition, on accasion of 115th birth anniversary of artist, were presented his graphical works, which where given to the funds of Kirovohrad regional art museum (picture gallery) by Odessa Artist union of USSR in 1978. They are landscapes, painted with watercolours: «Settlement Arkadia. Wharf» (1958), pictures from the series «Settlement, which disappeared. Square of dreams» (1958), «Evening. Shore near the Big Fountain» (1960), «Evening. Cliffs near the Big Fountain» (1961) and the work, written by odinary pencil «Boats on Kosheva» (1943).
