Exposition dedicated to 260 anniversary from the birthday of Seraphim Sarovskyi

Seraphim Sarovskyi – is one of the most respected Orthodox saint, thaumaturge. The future Reverend was born on 19 (30) July 1754 in Kursk. He was christened as Prokhir. When he was 7years old he fell from bell tower, but by a some miracle he was kept alive. The icon Our Lady of the Sight of Kursk healed him when he was teenager. In his youth he came in Kyiv as pilgrim to bow to pecherski saints.

When he was 18 he became novice of Sarovskyi monastery. He spent sixteen years in desert, three of them in complete silence. He tried himself by feat of Christian asceticism “Stovpnytstvo”: spending 1,000 nights on a rock in continuous prayer.

Having spent 10 years in the desert, Reverend, was of sixties, he started to help to those who suffered, calmed and healed them. In some holidays several thosands of people came to him. According to the witnesses, Reverend had a gift of the gab “alive and generous”,extraordinary perspicacity: he read thoughts, as a book. He always was cheerfull. His face shed miraculous light, and at the end of his life it was so bright-dazzling, that “it was imposible to look at him”. Seraphim Sarovskyi earth life was finished on 2 January 1833.

 

At the exposition was presented painting work “Pray of Seraphim” (2013), dedicated to the famous saint, by famous Kirovohrad artist, the member of Ukraine National Artist Union – Valerii Davydov.

 

Valerii Mykolaiovych Davydov was born on 21 December in Kirovohrad. In 1980 he entered Odessa State Art School named after M.B. Hrekov. In 1993 he graduated Riepin Painting Sculpture and Architecture Institute of Russian Art Academy (now Saint-Petersburg State Painting,Sculpture and Architecture Academic Institute named affter I.Yu.Repin ) graphic artist by profession. His degree thesis – series of etchings “Temptation” were showed at the exhibition graduates' degree thesis of institute named after I.Yu.Repin and V.I. Surykova in Russian Art academy in Moscow (1992- 1994) and in Paris in cultural centre of UNESCO (1995).

Valerii Mykolaiovych as a director of Kirovohrad Regional Art Museum (in 1998-2001) took direct part in preparing museum in opening for visitors, which took place after long renovation in 2001. He also took part in creating static exhibition of museum, the main principles of exposition, scientific and cultural work of museum.

With initiative of V.M.Davydov was created “Kirovohrad-how artist look at it” art auction-openair, which become traditional. The purpose of helding the auction is activation of the artistic process in oblast, sing songs about beauty of Kirovohrad in art works, to support talanted youth, outreach of fine arts and learning of oblast artistic capacity.

Since 2002 V.M. Davydov works as instructor of choreographic discipline, fine arts and design faculty of Volodymyr Vynnychenko Kirovohrad State Pedagogical University and focuses on the brining up talanted youth.

He is participant of many all-ukrainian and regional art exhibition.Since 2005 he is member of Ukraine National Artist Union.

In 2008 V. Davydov took part in painting portraits of outstanding compatriots for “Ukrainians in the world”All-ukrainian museum project, which combine pictures of the most famous representatives of ukrainian nation and it is exhibited in The International Convention Center "Ukrainian House" in Kyiv.

V.M.Davydov workes in realistic painting movement. Artist genre range of creativity is very wide: landscape, still life, portraits, conversation piece etc. The artist in his creative work developes the best tradition of realistic art.
