International Hugging Day
On the January 21st, 2014 in Kirovograd Regional Art Museum there was an exhibition devoted to the International Hugging Day. This event is celebrated annually – on the 21st of January.
Traditionally on this day you may hug even unknown person. The day was launched on January 21st, 1986 in Clio, Michigan, USA. Then holiday has spread rapidly and has become popular all over the world.
The origins of this holiday date back the 70th years of XX century, when it was formed among the students of Western Europe. But the exact circumstances of its appearance and the initiator of launching are still unknown. On this day girls and boys hugged each other without any hint of intimacy. By a kind of "belief", people exchange the warm of soul during friendly hugs.
There are even scientific justification about hugs utility: friendly touches enhance immunity system, stimulate the central nervous system, increase hemoglobin level in blood and other hormone – oxytocin, which arouses friendly attitude toward other people. Hugging – is non-verbal way of expressing kind feelings without words.
In the original coexist two holidays. In USA on the 21st of January people celebrate National Hugging Day.
Unselfishness and friendliness, sincerity and candor, the desire to live and peace of mind – is something that many of us are missing and this is something that we should require, and just start using, as it is characteristic for us.
The centerpiece of the exhibition is the work of the artist Dobrolezha A.T. "Two", which brings peculiarity and lyricism in the hugs of loving couple.
Also the exhibition is complemented with sincere and candid pictures of famous artists such as – compatriots Lohvyniuk O.S. "May 1945", Kolesnichenko V.S. "Mother's cherry". With the help of Eastern motifs famous artist Le-Thi-Kim-Bach showed the hugs intimacy in his picture “Farewell”.
The main gift of this International Hugging Day is not tangibles, but lasting and gentle hugs.
On this wonderful day Kirovograd Regional Art Museum sends its hugs to all who are dear to us, and to all whom we do not know, but would like to support. Congratulations on the International Hugging Day, the day of sincere unselfish support and caring people!
