On the 11th of September 2013 in Kirovohrad Regional Art Museum an exhibiton of works of artist-compatriot Serhii Dryha was opened.

Serhii Alimovych Dryha isn’t just a talented artist. He is a unique artist with a special creative ego, the master, whose works differentiates from the pictures of other painters with original technique, incredibly bright (and sometimes – flamy) scale of colours, firework of emotions and boundless stretch of imagination.

He was born in 1960 in Holovanivsk, Kirovohrad Oblast’, then he lived and studied in Kirovohrad, but he became an artist in Odessa, where he lives till now and that gives the reason for the Odessans to consider him an Odessan artist. In 1980 Serhii graduates from Odessa Mytrofan Hrekov Art Academy and actively begin to take part in all-Ukrainian, all-Soviet and international exhibitions.

We may mark international exhibition “Neva-95” (St. Peterburg, 1995), international exhibition “Marine-96” (Odessa, 1996), personal exhibitions in Marine Gallery and “Na Uiutnaia” gallery as the most important in the life of Serhii Alimovych and that proved people that he is the high class master. Also, he got prize-winning places at international biannual festival “Marine” a few times, where he proved oneself as good marine painter.

The works of Serhii Dryha repeatedly were presented in far-abroad countries, as Bulgaria, Belgium and Netherlands. A lot of pictures became the components of various private collections in Europe, USA and Israel.

Serhii Dryga is the regular participant of Easter Beneficial Auction, that is held by media-group “All Kirovohrad”, art-studio of Andrii Kadyhrob and Kirovohrad Regional Art Museum. In 2012 and 2013 he gave his works for participance in this event and every time his works had the great success and were top-selling.

An artist prefers work at creative open-airs, understanding that no creative fantasy would substitute the contact with a real nature. Nevertheless his works are the unique synthesis of reality, reflection of the feelings and even philosophic thoughts concerning this reality and original fantasy, due to which an artist exaltates above the routine. Specialists notes that the master finely depicts the light, water and air on his pictures. Also important is that all this is as if stays above the borders of concrete time and space, though it has quite realistic background.

Serhii Dryha made a whole line of pictures in which we can see the mysterious and secret “D-City”, the name of which the author deciphers as “The city of Dryha” or “The city of Childhood”.

It appeared in the mind of the artist under the influence of seen and felt. Some of us it reminds Odessa, the others – Venice, and anothers see something else. The important that the pictures of this direction is full of love the master to old nooks of the city, old architecture, generally all archaic, that doomed for a destroy with a cruel foot of civilization.

And the main factor that makes the creativity of Serhii Dryha different is that practically all his works are belongs to such term as “optimistic scenery” and “major painting”. Because all of them are sunny, optimistic, charge the viewer with positive energy, create appropriate mood and makes awaken our own fantasy and imagination, generally makes a function of such important in our time thing, as antidepressant.

Thirty works of artist are presented at the exhibibtion, which he gifted last year during the visit of museum workers to his workshop. The artist even gave the possibility for museum works to choose thematic pictures. So, in good traditions of beneficial practice, the artist-sponsor shows his patriotism by deeds to his little Motherland – Kirovohrad, which is good role model.

The piece of presented works reveals the romanticism of maritime town, often – evening time, or even night, beamed with a light of city lanterns and light that goes from the windows of the houses. Among these pictures – “Odessan tram” (1999), “Yhe lights of Walkenburg” (1999), “The morning in Antwerpen” (1999), “White City” (1999), “When the city sleeps” (1999), “The constellation of roofs” (2001), “The pallette of the town” (2001), “The city goes under the roofs” (2001), “Unknown native lights” (2005), “The snow was falling in Odessa” (2007) etc.

The ode of beauty and calm can be considered the picture “Cold morning” (1999), “Autumn blues” (2002), “Wilcow’s apples” (2003), “Still-lifes with apples” (2005), “March Day” (2010), “Velvet silence” (2010).

The decoration of the exposition became such pictures as “Zhinka” (1995), “The cold of the loneliness” (1996), “The daughter of innkeeper” (1999), “The contradiction of carnival” (1999), “The duel” (2005), “To the sun” (2011). Some are pierced not so much with romanticism, as philosophic perception of the world.

And the general atmosphere of feast and bright remembrances connected with childhood, shows such paintings as “The feast of the childhood” (1999) and “Christmas guests” (1999).

An interesting illustrative-informative matherial was also presented at the exposition, which meets the visitor of museum with such stages of creative life of Serhii Dryga and his creative specificity of his works.

A picture of painter “Blue-swirl meadow” (2012) was presented at the exhibition, it was made during the all-Ukrainian creative open-air in Zakarpattia. This work was also gifted by the author and filled the collection of Serhii Dryha’s works in fund collection of Kirovohrad Regional Art Museum.
